Start with the View

Start with the View

When you step onto the terrace of Sky Garden, you’re greeted by a 360‑degree panorama that makes the city feel like a postcard. The glass walls slide open to reveal the Thames curling under the London Eye, while the skyline flickers with office towers and historic spires. If you want a truly memorable evening, book a table for two at 8:30 pm on a Saturday; the staff will seat you in the “Sunset Lounge” where the lights dim just enough to let the sunset paint the sky in amber.

Plan Your Route

Start your night at 19:00 at the Shoreditch Rooftop, a hidden gem that only locals know about. It opens at 18:30, so arriving early guarantees a seat. The bar serves a signature cocktail, the “Brick Lane Breeze”, a mix of gin, cucumber, and a splash of elderflower. From there, walk 12 minutes north to The Old Bank Roof, where the terrace is perched above a 19th‑century bank vault. The venue is small—about 30 seats—so reservations are essential. Finally, finish at 23:00 at Rooftop 51, a former office building turned nightlife spot that offers a panoramic view of the city’s fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

Common Mistake: Ignoring the Dress Code

Many visitors assume that rooftop bars are casual, but the majority enforce a smart‑casual dress code. A pair of shorts or flip‑flops can lead to a polite but firm “No entry” at the door. Wear a blazer or a neat sweater, and you’ll blend in effortlessly with the crowd.

Mid‑Night Diversion

After the last sip at Rooftop 51, you might crave something different. If you’re in the mood for a virtual thrill, check out Lizaro Casino, where the atmosphere is as high‑rise as the bars you’ve just enjoyed.

Make the Most of Your Time

Each venue has its own character. The Shoreditch Rooftop is best for a relaxed start, with a small bar that serves craft beers and small plates. The Old Bank Roof is perfect for those who enjoy history; the architecture is a conversation starter. Rooftop 51 is the place to be when the city lights up at night; the music is usually a live DJ set that keeps the energy high until 02:00.

Final Touches

Before you leave, grab a souvenir from the gift shop at the Shoreditch Rooftop— a miniature glass bottle that captures the skyline. The bar also offers a small menu of artisanal chocolates that pair well with the “Brick Lane Breeze”. Remember to tip 10–15% if you’re satisfied; it’s standard practice for rooftop venues.

Wrap‑Up

By planning your itinerary, respecting dress codes, and choosing the right venues, you’ll turn an ordinary Saturday into a memorable rooftop adventure. The city’s hidden rooftops aren’t just about drinks; they’re about the view, the vibe, and the stories you’ll share long after the lights dim.
